Comfort

Ben is our only child who did not take to a pacifier. Or to his thumb, for that matter. Nope, Ben in an original. Flying in the face of self-soothing conventions, he turned his palm outward and stuck his index and middle fingers in his mouth. And then he grabbed his ear. And held on for dear life. Interestingly enough, he has quite flexible ear cartilage. I don't know if this is caused by this chronic grabbing of it or not, but sometimes it sticks out the other way for a while after he lets go. It isn't anything that doesn't pop back into place given time or a hands-on sibling, but it looks pretty funny. We get lots of comments on it. Our pediatrician seemed a little concerned even until I popped it back into place. If it lasts, he should be good for parties when he gets older.

But tonight he found something just as good: Daddy's ear.
